Saturday night we made our return to Calhoun County Speedway. It was our first time back there since
early May, and my back problems. The track is a really great facility, and makes for some great
racing. During hot laps, we were just trying to get a feel for the track again since the first time
we were there, we were a little down on power. By the time we qualified, we had dropped about 1.5s off
of our initial times, but the car was still a little tight. In the heat we started on the pole since
the series puts the slower cars in the front for the heats. It makes for a better show for the fans.
The car kinda loaded up (too much fuel in the cylinders) on the start, and a couple cars went by right
away. I settled into 4th down the back-stretch though. The next lap around I got passed going into 3
and moved back to 5th. Shortly after that, the caution came out because someone broke, and another
car pulled off due to engine problems. I wasn't able to move up anymore though because of the tight
condition the car was in. For the feature, we knew had no place to go but forward, so we threw a bunch
of changes at the car to see what would happen. At the drop of the green flag, the changes worked
great. The car turned really well, and it felt like we could race forward. However, around the 2nd
lap, the car started to pick-up a miss in the motor. The car was a little tight the rest of the race
as we raced hard with our good friend Kent McCloskey. There was one incident with about 6 laps to go
where a car that was lapping us tried to split us going into 1. I was on the outside, Kent on the
inside, and he tried to go through the middle. By the time I saw him, it was too late, and he ended
up bouncing off my left-side. This sent him spinning into the infield. He was able to keep it going
though, so no caution was thrown and finished the final laps under green. Well, that about wraps it
up for the this week-end. Next week-end we head to Berlin Speedway near Grand Rapids, MI for Johnny
Benson night. Yes, Johnny will be there, so if you want to get an autograph or meet the NASCAR driver
come along! I'll help pay for pit passes, and your lodging will be paid in full!!! Just get in touch
with me.
