September 18th, Sandusky Speedway - Cavalcade Nationals
Results
Qualified: 11th (17.08 sec)
Heat (8 laps): Started-2nd, Finished-3rd
It was great to have our season finale close to home for the two day show of the Sandusky Speedway's
Cavalcade of Speed with 6 different classes of racecars. On Saturday, we had our qualifications and
heat races, and we felt really confident on our set-up after practicing on Thursday. We did make a
few adjustments, and posted our fastest time ever at Sandusky which was 1.3 secs. faster than our
first visit earlier in the season. We started on the outside pole of the first heat, racing side
by side with the pole-sitter, Haley Barnett, for the first lap and a half. I was able to get past
her coming out of 4, but was over-taken by Nick Mitchell, near the start-finish line. The faster
cars in the back were coming to the front, however we were able to hold our own in 4th place. Then,
coming out of 4, Mitchell broke a motor. A couple laps later, the caution flew. Under the
caution, I was not aware of it at the time, the rest of the field pulled off do to mechanical woes. I
wasn't able to keep up with the front two after the restart though, and we came home 3rd. That was
our best heat race finish all year though.
