Well, our first venture in the "big time" professional ranks of autoracing didn't go too badly this
week-end. We at least got the car home in one piece and learned a WHOLE LOT of stuff. Anyway, on to
the details. We pulled into Toledo Speedway a little awestruck Friday as we parked right next to
multi-million racing teams that had at least 6 cars at their disposal. The program was a little
rain-shortened though because a shower moved through right as we were starting hot laps. So, USAC
said that we would have one practice session, and the fastest time that we recorded then would be our
qualifying time. Considering that was the first time we ever were on the track in a midget, we
weren't looking for anything special. We put down a decent time which put us 9th in the heat. During
the heat, we were able to stay with everyone, but the car pushing a little off the turns. We made
some changes for the B Main that really helped the car. We were able to race with them for most of
the race, but just didn't have the motor to run with them. Right before a red flag came out with 3
laps to go, our motor started to pick-up a miss. When they pushed us off again, I could tell we
weren't running on all cylinders, and then the car jumped out of gear, so I just pulled it in and
watched the final three laps.
