May 13th, FRP Points Race #2

Results

I hope everyone had a good Mother's Day. Ours went pretty well as we returned to Fremont Raceway Park for some good ole short track racing. The first race of the day was the make-up 20 lap feature for the April 22nd rain-out. We drew pills to determine the starting order, and we ended up starting third. As we headed into first turn on the start, the guy ahead of me got a little out of shape. I thought I could drive underneath him, but that wasn't the case. I ended up running over him which flipped me and my kart on its side. Nobody was hurt in the incident though and both karts were able to continue. On the re-start, I waited until everything got a little more sorted out before I committed to a line. This caused me to get boxed in some traffic, but we worked our way back up for a 2nd place finish. Next on the agenda was the regular show for May 13th. In the first heat, we started 3rd and finished 2nd, and in the second heat we started 5th and finished 4th. These finishes gave us the 3rd starting position for the feature race. It took a couple of laps to get into 2nd, but when we did, we started to track down the leader. Shortly before half-way, the caution flew which was exactly what we needed. From there on out, we were right there to take advantage if the leader made a mistake. He never made a big enough though and we ended up 2nd. By virtue of our two 2nd place finishes we are 2nd in points. Leading the points is Rex Wise, Jr. who won both features.
