July 15th, BKC at Fremont

First of all, I must say I feel sorry for everyone who couldn't make it to Fremont yesterday because you missed the best racing of the year so far! Yesterday, at Fremont Raceway Park, was the 4th installment of the Buckeye Karting Championship Series. There were 96 entries spred over 15 different classes of karts. We had only had 4 in the oval class because there was also a WKA Divisional race run yesterday. Four karts proved to be enough for great racing action. In the first heat we started 3rd. I was sitting third, waiting for things to shake out, when on the second lap the 1st and 2nd place karts got together in turn 2. The caution flew and eventually the red because one of the drivers needed to checked out. Once everything was sorted out, we restarted on the point and led from there on out. The second heat race we started 2nd. For the first couple laps, I was forced to run the outside groove, but the kart was working well everywhere. We were all still tight and bunched up 4 or 5 laps to go, so coming off of 4, I laid back a little so I could run a better line into 1. Boy, did that work too, I was able to pull underneath both karts off of two and take the lead. There was still close racing the rest of the heat, but we ended up with the win. So with the two heat wins, we started on the pole for the feature. The feature was relatively uneventful because we led flag to flag with no cautions or anything. With our first feature win, we gained 4 points on Rex in the BKC points standings and sets an interesting stage for the remaining BKC races at Barberton. I'd like to thank Tim Foust for coming over and helping us out, and Dale for coming out in the sun to watch as long as he could.
