August 19th, FRP Points, Rain-out Make-up

This week-end we ran a make-up race at Fremont for one of the races that was rained-out earlier in the year. All week the weather reports said that we would probably get rained on again, but luckily we were blessed with great weather, mid-70's and partly cloudy. Even with the good weather, I think some people were scared off my the predictions earlier in the week because we only had 4 karts in our class. For the first heat race, we started 2nd. The track didn't have much sun on it in the morning, so it was hard to get grip during the begining of the race. Rex jumped out to an early lead, but by the drop of the checkers we were right on his tail. We started 3rd in the second heat race, and after much slicing and dicing wound up 2nd. For most of the race, you could have thrown a blanket over the first 3 karts. The one guy was just a tick slower than Rex and I, and it made him really tough to pass. So, with two 2nd place finishes in the heats, we started 2nd for the feature. The feature race was kinda uneventful. For the first 10-12 laps, we were right on Rex's bumper but then started to fade back. After the race, we checked our engine readings and figured out why. The motor was starting to over-heat a little, and that robbed us of some horsepower. Also, since we hadn't raced in two weeks, the driver was getting tired as well. All in all, the day wasn't too bad. We know the mistakes that were made, and how to fix them easily.
