August 5th, FRP Points Race #10

Results

It was a beautiful day Sunday, especially by the time the first heat race rolled around, and we had a great turn out with 8 karts in our class. We started on the outside pole for the first 10 lap heat race. Going into the first turn, Rex made a bold move from his 4th starting position and made it three-wide. Luckily, I saw him and let the pole-sitter drift up in front of me, but then I turned under him and took over 2nd. That's where we stayed for rest of the heat race. The second heat race, we started 7th and I was a little worried about coming up through the field. This wasn't unfounded either because about 3 laps in, me and another guy, Jason, were making a pass in turn 2. The guy we were passing was on the high side of the track and decided to come down just as I put my nose under Jason. Well, Jason became the meat in the sandwich as I went over is left rear tire. Jason turned his kart to the right, and ended up rolling his kart. The red flag was thrown, but he was ok and continued to race. We restarted 4th, and dropped back to 5th because the kart had become really loose after the incident. Come to find out, the left front tire's lug nuts had come loose. So, with our 2nd and 5th place finishes, we started 3rd for the feature. I didn't have a great start and dropped back to 4th. It took a couple of laps, but I was able to make it into 2nd and started to run down Rex. We were gaining on him, but I knew we needed a caution if I was gonna catch him. Luckily we got one with about 5 laps left. He pulled a little lead early, but I was able to get up next to him coming off of 4. I couldn't make it stick though, and I had to fall back in line. We recieved the white flag and went into 1 side-by-side. We stayed that way down the back stretch and through 3 and 4, but got edged out by half a kart length at the checkers. The racing was hard, clean, and a lot of fun. I'd like to thank everyone that came out to watch yesterday, and I hope you weren't disappointed. You definitely saw a great race.
