May 6th, Regular Show at Toledo

Results

This week Atkinson Racing Enterprises ventured to the Toledo Speedway for the first time to run a Premiere Karting Assoc. event. We had always heard rumors that this place was fast and was it ever. Let me put this into perspective for you. For those of you that have been to Fremont, the track is about 1/10 mile and the fastest lap we turned there was 10.46. Now, at Toledo, the track is 1/4 mile and the fastest lap we turned in morning practice was 9.83...that's averaging over 90mph!!! Yes, it was fast...but fun also. As the day wore on and the track got a little warmer...track times were reduced down to the low and mid 11's...which is high 70s, low 80s in the actual races. We had to move up to the Stock Heavy Class (360lbs) this week because a Medium class was not offered. We had 14 karts entered in our class, so they split us into two groups (A and B) for the heat races.
In our first heat race, we started 6th and finished 4th. In our second heat race, we started 2nd and finished 3rd. The feature line-up was determined by your finishing positions in your heat races. The 4th and 3rd places finishes gave us a starting position of 8th out of 14 for the 15 lap feature. I didn't get the best start, and got past by a couple of karts early. Then a caution came out for two karts getting together. We were sitting 10th on the restart and made it up to 7th in the remaining green flag laps. I thought we did pretty good for the first time being there. All in all, we had a really good time, and the racing was fast and safe.
