October 7th, FRP Points Race Rain Make-up

Well, yesterday was a pretty cold day at that track. I think that it got up to a whopping 51 degrees! The cold served up an interesting challenge for the set-up though. With the track being cold, it took some time to get the tires warmed up. Luckily, the sun was on the track most of the day, so it got some heat in it. Anyway, we had three karts in our class yesterday, myself, Rex, and sprint car driver John Ivy came out for a little fun. In the first heat, Rex started on the pole and I was on the outside. I stayed on the outside through the 1st and 2nd turns which helped keep my momentum up. I moved to the inside of Rex going into 3, and he proceeded to move down. I was in the grass a little, but rubbed him enough to let him know I was there. We were wheel to wheel down the front stretch and into 1, but I came out of 2 with the lead. And that's how the heat finished, me 1st, Rex 2nd, John 3rd. For the 2nd heat, John was on the pole, I was outside and Rex was third. It was a good start, and a great race for the first 3 laps. John and I battled all the way around the track. Him on the inside and me on the outside. I have to thank John for good close, hard, clean, and fun racing. It was a blast. Being on the high side again though let me keep my momentum a little more, especially out of 2. That's where I ended up completing the pass, and went on to the victory. So, with the two heat race victories, we started on the pole for the feature. Rex was on the outside, and John started 3rd. The first couple attempts at starts were waved off because old Rex wanted to get a little too much of a jump. That was fine with me though because it let me warm up the tires a little more. When we did get a good start, Rex and I went into 1 side by side. I think he washed up the track because I didn't see him again after coming out of 2. We led the feature flag to flag and won in convincing fashion. I must admit that with about 2 or 3 laps to go, I was getting pretty tired and didn't push it as hard which let him close a little. But he couldn't get up to us. So we got our first FRP points feature win on the last points race of the season. It definitely felt good. I was going to do dough-nuts in the infield, but just as I was started, I was afraid I might get stuck, so I just did the normal victory lap. :) Also, I would like to dedicate our whole day and wins to our most loyal fan/my boss/friend Dale Kremer. He was injured earlier in the week and wasn't able to come out and see us. I told him we were gonna win it for him and we did. Get well soon Dale. I have to thank my Uncle Ron and cousin Sherry for coming out in the cold and giving us a hand as well. Their help was greatly appreciated. Well, that puts a wrap on the points season. We ended up 2nd in the FRP points to Rex. We will probably race one more race this year as well. That with be Oct. 21st when I'm home for Fall Break. The track is calling it Chili Day. There will be \$100 prize for the best chili there. So if anyone wants to make chili or just taste chili, that's the day to come. The racing will be be a money race too, so you know there's gonna be some excitement on the track. I think it'll be for more than what we got for our feature win yesterday which was $30. But you know what they say, it's not about the money, it's about going behind the trailer and the end of the day and being able to say, "We just whipped their ass!"
