Well, they always say that racing is a very humbling sport, and we found out this week-end. After
posting a solid finish in our last race at Springport, our hopes were high to be able to compete with
the USAC National Series at Toledo and Mansfield. Plus, since these are our only local shows, we
hoped to see some of you at the track. At Mansfield, we weren't so lucky. It ended up that we
lost our help from the night before due to other committments, so it was just my dad and I to crew
the car. The first practice session we found that we needed to change gears for a little most
straight-away speed. The car handled 'ok' especially since this about the 20th lap I've ever turned
around the place. We were able to get the gear changed in the limited time we had between sessions.
During the 2nd session, there were a couple cautions for spinning cars. Before going back to green,
I noticed I didn't have any brakes! I rode the last two practice laps out, and was able to get it
back to pits ok. We found that the brake like out of the master cylinder had broken, and we didn't
have a spare for that part. So, instead of trying to patch something together, we decided it best to
pack it in for the day. I do have to that Rylee Stoner for coming up from Columbus. Luckily, we got
word to him before he paid to come in, but it was nice to know someone had come, ready to help. Our
next race is on July 21st. We'll be competing with our normal series, WOMS, where we seem to fit in
a lot better! We did learn some stuff from these races though, so hopefully we can translate that
to better finishes with WOMS.
