Well, another racing season has come to close. Our final race of the 2009 season was at Baer Field Speedway this past Saturday. Even though it was our last time at the track this season, it was not without some excitement. During hot laps, the car was a little bit tight going into the turns, and then loose coming off. All night we ended up fighting this condition. For qualifying, I was able to turn the 19th fastest time with the car feeling a lot better, but still a little skittish off the turns. Our qualifying time put us in the 7th starting position in the first heat. We had made some adjustments before the race, but the car still did not want to turn in very well or come of the turns straight. With about one lap to go, a car ahead of us spun which we were able to avoid and come home 6th. The track decided to start all 23 cars in the feature, but the race was extended to a 40 lap affair. Let me just say that the 19th starting position looked like a long way back. The start of the race was very clean even with one of the cars having problems down low. I was able to settle into a little bit of the a rythmn trying to roll the car into the turn, and as the car started to loosen up in the center of the turn, drive off the bottom. However, coming out of the 4th turn about lap 15, the right rear started to bite a little more, and take me around. The car started to the infield. I gave it a little more gas and some wheel, and I thought I had it saved. Then it started back around the other way. Again, I counter steered with a little gas and brake, and I thought I had it save again, but then, it ended up spinning and stalling the motor. So, they pushed me back off at the back of the field. The car really started to push on entry now, and my brakes were starting to fade a little. It took me a few laps to get around the guy infront of me, and once I did, the leaders had caught up to us. We had a couple more cautions before the end of the race, and each time I was able to stick with the pack. I guess a lot of the cars were having the same problem as me. Well, after all was said and done, I came home in 15th. This morning we found that my little excursion through the infield probably affected the handling of the car by binding up the rear pan-hard/track-bar. I have to thank everyone that helped us out at Ft Wayne, Mark Pridemore and Dick Ross, and of course my dad and everyone else that has helped us throughout the season. You know I can't do any of this without you guys! Well, it's only about 7 mos until the 2010 racing season starts. You better believe we'll be working hard in the off-season, so we can have a successful 2010!! As soon as I know schedules and everything I'll let you know.
