Saturday sure was a hot one, and it wasn't any different at the racetrack. At first the day looked
ike it would start with rain, but it cleared up and we went to the track. During the practice
sessions, most everyone was having trouble getting grip. Our car wasn't doing too bad, but after the
2nd practice, we noticed the wing-tree was starting to bend. We made a quick fix, and we were
scheduled to go out 3rd for qualifying. Both qualifying laps, the car felt pretty stable, and I was
able to put in a pretty solid time. By the time the heat races rolled around, the clouds were starting
to build in the west. We lined-up 3rd in the 2nd heat, and with a couple sprinkles falling ran a
pretty good race. On the start, I was a little boxed in since a slower car starts on the pole due to
the invert. On the second lap, I was able to get under him coming off of 2. The next car gave me
quite a bit of trouble though. I wasn't able to get under him coming off the turns since that's where
his car seemed to be taking him. The car behind me was then able to get around me on the outside.
After he went by, I decided to try going around the high-side too. But, the car was a little tight
after entry so I couldn't quite get back to the throttle quick enough. Plus, I new the was or could
be rain falling harder at any minute, so I didn't go too much harder. So, we ended up 5th in the
heat race. After pulling in, the rain started to fall harder. They ended up not running the 3rd
heat race because of the rain. Looking at the radar, we loaded the car, and the rain started to come
down even harder. Shortly after, they cancelled the races for the night. They decided to reschedule
the whole show for this coming Saturday, so basically everything we got done, didn't count.
Unfortunately, I had already scheduled something for this Saturday, so we won't be running this
Saturday. If nothing else, we were able to learn more about the car in race conditions. I have
to thank Chad Fifer and Ryan Schimmoeller for making the trip out and helping us out in the muggy
weather. You guys really help spread the load out so we could all stay energized. Well, our next
race will be August 28th at Ft Wayne again. Then after that, we'll be back at Angola Speedway September 5th. Hope everyone is doing well, and see you at the track!
