Sandusky Speedway, Sandusky, OH (1/2 mile paved)
Feature: Started-19th, Finished-12th
For the Feature, we started 19th since one of the cars blew an engine in the morning practice sessions.
The initial start went well even though there were cars everywhere! Sandusky Speedway is a pretty
narrow track, and when you have over twenty cars running into the turns at well over 100 mph things
can get exciting fast. We were able to get one lap completed before three cars got together going
into the first turn. One of the cars involved was Jim Swain's car which wasn't able to continue. On
the restart everyone was able to keep up the pace until a lap or so later when a front wing side-board
came off the car. Throughout the first couple laps, the car was handling pretty well! It was just a
little bit tight off the turn, but was very driveable and capable of moving up. We restarted again
and a few laps later a car got into the wall coming off the 4th turn. At that point, the officials
decided to stop the race so we could add fuel to the cars. Off of the red flag, the car was still
handling just as well. We were able to keep up with the field, but the leader was starting to lap
other cars quickly. Just past half-way he was able to get around me, but the caution came out about a
lap later. So, on the restart I was the second car in-line even though I was a lap down. I gave the
faster cars the outside line going into the first turn, but once the 4th place car passed, I moved
back to my line. I was able to hang with the leaders for the next several laps until the car spun in
the 1st and 2nd turn. After the spin, the officials said there was fluid on the track which made
sense considering there was no warning that the car was getting more loose. So after the spin, we
started at the tail of the field again. There were about 10 laps left, and the car handled pretty
well for the final laps. It did start to get a little loose near the end, and the leader was able to
get passed on the last lap again, but overal we were happy with being able to finish the race.
So that wraps up our 2012 season! I know we didn't get out too much this year, but the time, we were
able to learn a lot and we're already getting ready for next season. I really, really have to thank
my dad, Mark Pridemore, and of course Jim Swain for all their help this year. And I can't forget my
absolutely wonderful fiance' Lindsey for all her support!!! Oh, there was some talk at Sandusky that
the AVBBSS will be visiting Toledo twice and Sandusky twice in 2013. If so, that means we'll probably
be out a lot more next year!!
