This passed Saturday was the next to last points race of the season for Sandusky Speedway. That's right, there is only one more points race left for 2015! We went back to the track a couple minor changes after our 8/15 performance. The changes did help the car feel a little more comfortable, but we were still having trouble getting through the middle of the turns. During practice, the crew noticed that if I changed my line a little, we were able to keep up a little more speed through the turn. So, most of the night we made changes to help the new line. For qualifying, I was using too much brake getting into the turns which obviously didn't make fast lap times. In the heat, the car was more stable, but the RF was not gripping in the center of the turn to help the car turn. I was able to stick with the pack most of the race; however, wasn't able to advance any positions. We started 15th out of 15 for the Feature race. During the opening laps, the car was still tight in the center. I was able to drive through it most of the time in order to stay with the pack though. Around lap 8 there was a caution for a car that spun and had a flat rear tire. Bunching up the field again, I could stick with them again, and even started to make a little ground for a few laps. Around lap 16 there was another caution due to a spun car on the front-stretch. Restarting 13th, put me on the inside where the car handled the best. A couple laps after the restart, the car right in front of me about spun coming off the 4th turn. I was able to get by though, picking up two positions. With the laps winding down, I was starting to get a little tired. It was getting harder to keep the car down in the center, and one car actually passed me on the outside. With about 2 laps to go, the second car made a brave move under me going into the 3rd turn. I didn't think there was room, but he made it work. So, we ended up coming home in the 14th position. I have to thank my dad, Uncle Jim, Ryan Schimmoeller, and my wife for coming out an helping all night. All the hands and information helped drop our lap time by a whole second throughout the night. Still not as fast as the leaders, but getting better. Our next race on Sept. 19th is the final points race for the season. We're currently 12th in the standings, and I think we can get to 11th, maybe even 10th with a really good run. We've already starting changing things which we will be testing in the next couple weeks.
