Well, it was our first time back to the track in over a month. After rain, schedule conflicts, and illness, it was time to have some fun again! We had made some changes from our last time out, but we were still fighting a push on entry the whole night. Adjustments we made to the car did make it feel more comfortable; however, it still wasn't helping it turn much. In qualifying, the car shut-off going down the back-stretch during the first timed lap. I didn't know what happened until getting it back to the pits. Apparently, the spring loaded safety cover on the ignition switch flipped down by itself. Needless to say, the safety cover came off, but we weren't able to go back out for a qualifying time. Thankfully, the heat race was rather uneventful for us. I did spin the car about halfway through trying to make it turn, so I just took the rest of the race easy. For the Feature, we started 11th after making some more changes to the car. Again, the changes helped a little, but not enough to make a handling difference. The leaders were able to catch me by about lap 9, so I decided to try something different. The car would start to turn in the center if I gave it a little gas, then by riding the brake a little, I was able to control it with the throttle and steering wheel so it would not spin. There was a red flag with about 2 laps to go after one of the front runners spun, and a car behind him was launched over the guardrail. Thankfully, the car landed on all fours and no was hurt. The last two laps weren't too exciting as we came home in one piece in 9th place. Our next race is 8/15 at Sandusky Speedway. There are more changes in store, so we'll have to see if they work or not. I have to thank my Uncle Jim, cousin Rob and his son Owen, Ryan Schimmoeller, my wife Lindsey, and of course my dad for helping us make it through the night. If it wasn't for all of you, the night would have been really challenging! Hope everyone is doing well and see you at the track!
