October 18th, Midget Experience-Toledo
Report
Well, in preperation for racing our own midget, we decided to take advantage of the track time offered
to us by Kevin Greer. He promoted an event to test drive midgets for a small nominal fee. Now, the cars
were actually Kenyon cars which are a little smaller than ours. The motor was slightly smaller putting out
about 130hp where ours is almost 300hp! The Kenyon cars also have a transmission in them, so I had to shift
gears. It was a motorcycle tranny though making it easy to shift, and I could just leave it in one gear the
whole time. I was given 3 segments with the car. First, 10 laps to get used to it, and then two 20 lap sessions
to really get after it. Well, during the first session, I spun in the car early on. Just as I was getting
more comfortable actually. Apparently, I was too comfortable. After that, the sessions went really well.
One thing for sure is that you have to use a LOT of brake to get those cars to turn. They told me that the
car would be really light on the front-end, and they weren't joking. My biggest problem was that I was over-driving
the car into the 3rd turn, and that had a lot to do with not having anything to use as a brake point. See,
on the front-stretch I had a cone I could use while on the back-stretch there was nothing. Either way, I had a
blast, and I'm really looking forward to getting our car ready for competition. We did get a couple of pics, enjoy!
